How did it all start?

A Brief Story how a Banker and a Housewife start a Restaurant Chain from Home

Most of our old guests already know this story but many new guests don’t. Therefore I felt this story needs to be put out and what better way to start a blog journey to write about one’s own parents who began this whole journey that probably will last for generations to come.

In the year 2020, we shifted our old branch to a newer bolder place at Drive in which seats around 85 guests at a time and looks absolutely beautiful and fantastic. It has all the things that the older branch was lacking like Roadside visibility, great ambience, bigger space for private party orders, well equipped kitchen, more importantly a great parking space.

We opened it on 1st January of 2020 and a thought came across my mind. Do all travellers decide their destination when they start their journey? I mean did it ever come across my parents mind when they started this business that they would ever reach here or go beyond? That night I asked my Dad the same question. The answer was a smile and a simple “No.”

So how did it all start?

Maybe it’s the itch of an entrepreneur or god’s gift that some have that courage to take the road not taken. Here comes a housewife from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh with excellent cooking skills who has an idea of starting a small business of selling idli/ dosas and their batter from home to utilise the excess time she has on her hand when her son is out for school and husband goes to office. This small idea sparked a whole new concept when her husband agreed to this and soon they both started this journey.

After starting this business on a small scale they quickly realise that there is a huge vacuum in the market for some authentic southindian food and people loved their taste of sambhar and chutneys. My Dad’s entrepreneurial spirits kicked in, left his job and they soon took a small shop and a house at vastrapur where customers could also come and dine-in.

Being an Amdavadi at heart I can tell you one thing that we Amdavadis love good food and would go to the end of the world to try it and therefore this small shop with six tables where couple did most of the work soon became famous for its lovely idlis and dosas in its vicinity where many people started flocking in to satisfy their craving for some authentic southindian food. Most of our old customers still remember the beginning of our journey when they used to walk into our home as guests to have their favourite meal.

We strongly believe that good food knows no boundaries and thus we got our first contract at IIMA. Second year student & Mess Committee Chairman Mr. Vastal Jain who still is a dear friend of ours of the institute realised that most of the southindian students were going to a outlet called Radhika’s to satisfy their craving for southindian food and convinced the owners to open their outlet there to cater more crowd and the southindian students in particular loved the food a lot and thus giving us a confidence for opening a new full fledged restaurant at Drive in road which started our whole expansion.

After opening our branch at Drive in Road there was no looking back, people kept flocking in for the great food that we serve, guests & staff who stayed with us from home became our extended family and we soon grew to open up 4 more branches year on year and plan to open many more in the future.

We currently operate our Central Kitchen at Thaltej and retail Drive in Road, Prahladnagar, CG road, SG Highway Gota and of course IIMA and continue to serve with the same passion and enthusiasm that we had on our day one of starting our business.
